Lions Mane Decoction Chinese Medicinal Elixir
Look forward to something extra special at our upcoming 3/26/11 class. Not only will we be exploring raw vegan Asian cuisine, but sampling their medicinal traditions as well. Medicinal mushrooms are an integral part of Eastern medicine and nutrition, SoI have begun a decoction of Lions Mane, a local medicinal mushroom courtesy of my good friend, a mycologist in Crozet. I also have a medley of Super Herbs – astragalus, nettles, ashwaganda, reishi, brewing in the cauldron as well.

There are certain nutritional components of mushrooms that are released more potently by cooking them. When that is true of a vegetable, like Tomatoes, for instance, the same nutritional content is unlocked by blending it. This method allows the food to keep its enzymatic integrity as well, and helps the body to more easily integrate the nutrients as the surface area is increased in the liquid state.
Still, I was not sure if I would be getting the full benefit of the mushroom just by blending it. So I added Raw Cacao, which contains capillary-dilating Theobromine. Anything consumed with cacao is thus more readily absorbed by the body. I also included DMSO, Dimethyl-Sulfoxide. DMSO is a powerful carrying agent. (DMSO, although only reccommended for topical use, has extreme internal healing benefits as well. It is not toxic, and is an integral part f a well-rounded health approach. Just be educated about its properties before you use it, because it will carry into your bloodstream traces of anything with which it comes into contact.)
All this and more in the Vitamix, I flipped the switch with assurance that whatever I tasted next was going to be a potent super elixir. It tasted INCREDIBLE!!

We will be enjoying this chocolate mushroom creation, infused with the 5-day decoction on Saturday so come join us!!
